ABOUT

Gus was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012, and he lost his battle in February of 2016. Gus was a brave, kind, and noble man. He was an incredible husband and an outstanding father. Gus was a 12 year veteran of the New York City Fire Department and an alumni of Our Lady of the Assumption as well as the school’s gym teacher and boys’ basketball coach. He was also a local soccer coach for AFC Rapid Soccer.

Our mission is to continue the kindness and generosity that Gus displayed throughout his life. The purpose of our tournament is to continue to support the efforts of the aforementioned groups in bringing the community together and helping those in need.

This year, we have decided to change how we will donate the proceeds from our dodgeball tournament. Covid has changed our entire way of life and the world that we live in. While the entire world was put on pause last year while we got this terrible pandemic under control, we were also forced to cancel our 3rd annual dodgeball tournament. Unfortunately, although we were not able to host our event, just like everyone else our bills and costs to run this organization were not put on hold. We have been coming up with ways to try and generate funds to keep our mission going. While we have been successful in keeping our heads above water and getting our bills paid thanks once again to the extraordinary generosity from our unbelievable supporters, not having our main source of income last year, our dodgeball tournament, has put a financial strain on our organization.

We have decided that rather than honoring just one person or family this year, we will honor all of those people from our community that we lost due to Covid with a special memorial. We will be taking all of the proceeds from this year’s dodgeball tournament and as we have done every year prior, we will donate to local organizations and fundraisers throughout the year. Our last event hosted over 400 people and we are truly blown away by the support we have received from our community and we hope to eclipse that total at this year’s event. We look forward to seeing all of you on September 19, 2021 for another memorable event!
